Jo Weis, PhD


Associate Professor

Director, Behavioral Medicine for Palliative Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital

Dr. Weis attended St. Olaf College and Cardinal Stritch University for her undergraduate training. She received her doctorate at Marquette University and received postdoctoral training at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Weis is recipient of the Wisconsin Psychological Association Margaret Bernauer Postdoctoral Research Award, the Marquette University School of Education Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award, and is the current President of the Milwaukee Area Psychological Association.

Dr. Weis is a licensed psychologist and collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team of physicians and nurses who administer to palliative care patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She is one of the research clinicians pioneering the use of imagery rescripting and reprocessing therapy as a treatment modality for persons with posttraumatic stress disorder. Her academic interests in addition to posttraumatic stress disorder include psychological issues and resilience at end of life, and supervision training of oncology and palliative care fellows.

Dr. Weis sees inpatients and families at Froedtert Hospital through the Palliative Care Program and the Department of Neoplastic Diseases. She also sees outpatients at the Behavioral Health Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, MCW, at the Tosa Center. She sees patients with depression, anxiety, adjustment reactions, PTSD, chronic pain, chronic illness, and end of life issues.
