Message from the Chair
William See, MD
As the largest academic urology group in Wisconsin, The Department of Urology at the Medical College of Wisconsin serves as a regional resource for patients with urologic conditions. Our fellowship-trained care providers encompass the entire spectrum of patient care needs. From pediatrics to geriatrics, men and women, benign or life-threatening conditions, microsurgical, minimally invasive, to conventional open surgery, our physicians offer un-paralleled expertise for the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of patients with urologic diseases.
As an academic department our mission extends beyond the provision of state-of-the-art clinical care. At both the basic and translational science levels we are advancing the field of urology in ways that will ultimately improve both the quantity and quality of life of our patients. Our efforts in physician education ensure that future generations of patients will have access to the highest quality care available. Finally, we believe it is important to give back to the community through our patient education lectures and our free prostate cancer screening initiatives.
Our growth and success in becoming one of the premier academic urologic programs in the Midwest has been the result of a successful partnership with the multiple members of our clinical, educational, and research enterprise. Our pediatric affiliate, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, our adult affiliate Froedtert Hospital, the Milwaukee Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and our parent organization, the Medical College of Wisconsin, have all contributed substantially to the success of this team effort. Our recent partnerships with Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, and St. Josephs Hospital in West Bend allow patients throughout southeastern Wisconsin broader access to our services.
Relative to many University affiliated academic programs we are somewhat handicapped from the standpoint of name recognition. It is safe to say that our football team will never be in the BCS championship bowl, our undergraduates will never make national headlines for post game antics, and our alumni will never gather en-masse sporting the school colors. Nonetheless we hope that when patients and providers hear the name “Department of Urology at the Medical College of Wisconsin” they will recognize the value of this outstanding regional resource for the care of patients, the education of physicians, and for the advancement of the art and science of urological surgery. We strive to create name recognition one patient or provider at a time.
