Dr. Ashima Singh earned her PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh and MS in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Her broad research interest involves knowledge discovery through real world data. With the digitization of health records, there is now access to massive amounts of patient level data.
Dr. Singh’s current work involves leveraging the big data of electronic health records to understand health care systems, the health of populations, and real-world practices. These data allow a research continuum that includes treatment and diagnoses, risk assessment and prediction, and disparities and epidemiology. Apart from research, these data are the building blocks for a learning health system and allow for ongoing quality improvement. Specifically, her focus areas of research interests in health outcomes are clinical, economic and patient reported outcomes (PROs).
