Why I chose MCW: I was looking for a program with early, in-house exposure to every orthopedic sub-specialty and evidence of a robust operative experience including active trauma and VA services and a high resident-to-fellow ratio. On my interview day I was additionally impressed with the one-of-a-kind elective opportunities here and the down-to-earth, genuine camaraderie I sensed among the residents.

What MCW has to offer a candidate: I think MCW Ortho's most important strength is the outstanding, well-rounded operative experience. MCW residents operate "early and often" with significant graduated autonomy. As a result, some of our graduates routinely go directly into community practice. Our residents are also well-positioned to be competitive for any fellowship with plenty of research infrastructure and elective time.

What I like about living in Milwaukee: Wisconsin is definitely under-rated when it comes to outdoor activities. The local bike trails are excellent and I love kayaking the local rivers and getting out on Lake Michigan. I've also enjoyed Milwaukee's festivals, farmers markets, and cuisine. Downtown Chicago is just a 90-minute train ride away, but I've honestly felt like everything I want in a city is right here in my backyard.
