Research Interests
My primary research interest is cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), although I have worked on other imaging modalities and clinical applications. I received the Master and Doctoral (PhD) degrees from Johns Hopkins University, where I worked on developing new techniques for cardiovascular imaging. After graduation, I worked as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at University of Florida. During that 5-years period, I received both institutional and external funding for conducting different MRI projects, and instructed courses at both the Engineering and Medical Schools. I then joined Mayo Clinic, working on different medical imaging projects, before moving to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as an Assistant Professor of Radiology, and then switching to Industry, where I am currently the Manager of Cardiac MR R&D with GE Healthcare, based in the HQ in Wisconsin, USA. In my current role, I lead a global team working on R&D activities, and set the roadmap and development strategy (more about role responsibilities is listed below in the CV). I have extensive experience in advanced MRI pulse sequence development and programming, image processing and reconstruction, and data analysis. I am the author of a two-volume book “Heart Mechanics. Magnetic Resonance Imaging", a key reference in cardiac MR imaging, in addition to over 150 publications, including book chapters, book reviews, journal papers, and conference papers/abstracts. I am a reviewer for over 30 international journals, conferences, and grant funding agencies. I have been invited as a visiting professor and served as an organizer, session moderator, and guest speaker in a number of international meetings/events, as well as a consultant for industry. I received many awards and nominations for distinguished accomplishments, as well as different research funding grants. On the teaching side, I have been teaching since 1996 to both medical and engineering students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I also serve as an external expert/dissertation committee member for a number of graduate students.
