Education
Undergraduate: BS, Cell/Molecular Biology and Chemistry, University of Wisconsin – Green Bay
Biography
I completed my undergraduate degrees in both Cell/Molecular Biology and Chemistry, with a focus on Human Biology. I was fortunate enough to work with Dr. Mark Schmitz, at UW – Sheboygan, on his Aquaponics/Tilapia system to organize and determine the effects of freshwater fish waste on varying agricultural plants. I have done other research and lab work during my time in University, but I am still looking for what I wish to pursue in graduate school.
Research Interests
rAAV vectors have limited coding capacity and so are unable to package large genes associated with the development of inherited retinal disease, such as Stargardt’s (ABCA4) and Usher Syndrome (e.g. MYO7A, CDH23). I will be working on developing novel vectors that are capable of delivering large genes to photoreceptors in an attempt to overcome this limitation.
