Biography

Julie Nielsen-Witkovsky, MD, attended UW-Madison for undergrad, medical school, and psychiatry residency and Child Fellowship. She has had a small private practice, worked at Dane County Mental Health Center (now Journey Mental Health Center) in Child/Adolescent Services, with two affiliated wrap around services organizations, and at one of the adult community support programs. Throughout this time she was a half time psychiatrist at UW Madison Student Health Counseling and Consultation Services for 19 years and the only psychiatrist at UW Platteville Counseling Service for 10 years. In 2013, she joined Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center. Her enduring psychiatric practice has been as a uniquely fully integrated psychiatrist within primary care clinics. She crafted her position in the UW Department of Family Medicine in 1995 and joined Access Community Health Centers in 2012. There she is involved in hands on training of both family medicine and psychiatry residents as well as medical students, counseling psychology students and social work students. Her professional interests have been integrated behavioral health in family medicine; psychopharmacology of all ages; systems and collaborative care processes; CBT/DBT with a large dollop of insight-oriented therapy; and finding the most complicated cases in Wisconsin. She is Clinical Faculty within the Department of Family Medicine.
