I grew up just outside of Madison, WI. I am married and have two little boys (3 yo and 1 yo). I am currently applying to Sports Medicine fellowships.
What I like most about Milwaukee is taking the family to the Milwaukee Zoo. My three-year-old loves seeing all the animals. The lions and elephants are his favorites.
The residents and faculty are there for each other when we need it. During the COVID pandemic, we set up a weekly department Zoom call just to socialize which has been a lot of fun. We also have a yearly resident retreat which allows for great bonding time with our residents. My PGY II year we went to a trampoline park and went kayaking along the river in downtown Milwaukee and my PGY III year we went to Six Flags Great America.
I had the opportunity of attending the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in 2019 with Dr. Lee while on my Spinal Cord Injury rotation. It was an amazing and fulfilling experience. My favorite event to watch was the Super G which takes the top competitors in the Slalom and puts them through a intense obstacle course.
I really enjoy covering high school football with Dr. Curtiss. We spend our time on the sidelines discussing common sports medicine topics and going through how we should approach different cases.
I have been extremely happy with my experience here in Milwaukee. The program has been supportive of me pursuing my personal/professional goals. I am lucky to be one of the first residents on the research intensive track which has allowed me additional time to work on my resident project on concussions in wheelchair sports. Additionally, the research faculty helped me write a grant proposal to support the project which was recently awarded $50,000.
