President's Community Engagement Award

The President’s Community Engagement Award recognizes the exemplary community-academic partnerships, community engaged research (CEnR), or community outreach activities and programs of faculty, staff, students and/or community partners of the Medical College of Wisconsin.   view all award recipients

Award Process

*The 2018 call for nominations has closed as of 2/15/17*

Nomination Criteria
  • Individuals and organizations, regardless of previous nominations, are eligible to apply
  • Individuals and organizations nominated last year must clarify within this year’s nomination submission what is new/different about the current year’s nomination submission
  • Individuals and organizations are eligible to be nominated who have not received the award in the past 5 years
  • Nominations can be for:
    • An individual who is a staff, faculty, alumni or community partner of MCW
    • A community partner organization or program, as a whole
Submission Requirements

The nomination package should contain the following:

  1. Filled out required nominating letter form
  2. One nominating letter from faculty, staff or students, no more than three pages, which includes a narrative description advocating for and making the case for why this nominee’s accomplishments are outstanding relative to others doing community engaged work at MCW, and demonstrating how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (make sure the relationship between letter writer and nominee is clear)
  3. ONLY two supporting letters from faculty, staff students, community partners, and/or alumni that demonstrate how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (make sure the relationship between letter writer and nominee is clear). Each letter should be no more than two pages in length
  4. A current copy of nominee’s resume/CV
  5. (Optional) Media clips, press releases, or articles related to Nominee’s community engaged work may be included on a flash drive. Print articles may not exceed 2 pages total
  6. If necessary, the Committee may request further information from the nominee or department before a final decision is made

Evaluation Process
  • Nominations will be reviewed by members of the Community Engagement Award Committee Members
  • Each nomination will be reviewed by committee members based on:
    • Institutional & community impact
    • Strength of community partnership
    • Effort given towards partnership/project
    • Evidence of exceptionalism in partnership/project
    • Overall merit
  • Any committee members with conflict of interest related to nominees must reveal there is a conflict and will then abstain from reviewing that nominee packet
  • The Community Engagement Award Committee will submit their final recommendations to the President of MCW for consideration
  • Final decision on & approval of award recipients will be made by the President of MCW
Awardee Recognition

Awardees will be recognized for their exemplary work in Community Engagement by:

  • Being featured as an awardee at the MCW President’s Community Engagement Award Reception on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11:30 am
  • Receiving a plaque
  • Having their name added to the MCW Plaque of Awardees, located in the Office of the Senior Associate Dean for Community Engagement
  • Being featured in the MCW President’s Community Engagement Award Program and, potentially, future special feature articles and highlights through other MCW communication platforms and external news sources
  • Receiving a $2000 monetary award
