David Friedland, MD, PhD appointed to leadership role in the Clinical and Translational Institute of Southeast Wisconsin (CTSI)
Escalating his role at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Dr. David Friedland, Chief, Division of Otology and Neuro-otologic Skull Base Surgery and Division of Research, and Vice Chair, Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences was appointed Associate Director of the CTSI and Director of the Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) effective February 1, 2022.
In his new CTSI role, Dr. Friedland’s responsibilities include strategy, expansion, and operations of the CTSI and CTRC, encompassing the non-Cancer Clinical Trials Office and the Adult-Translational Research Unit. He will focus on growing the clinical trial infrastructure and integrate CTSI services into the MCW departments, centers, institutes, and partner institutions with an aim to raise awareness, provide access, foster collaborations, and coordinate services. Additional efforts include building strategic relationships with industry and key partners.
Dr. Friedland has a strong collaborative relationship with investigators at CTSI partner institutions, Marquette University and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. These experiences led him to be principal investigator on a department-wide outcomes research platform, OTO Clinomics, funded through the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin endowment. He has served on the MCW research affairs committee, chaired the MCW professionalism enrichment committee, and served as medical director of the otolaryngology clinics.
Dr. Friedland will devote 60% of his time in this new role while remaining clinically, academically, and administratively active within the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences.
Dr. David Friedland received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and his PhD degree from City University of New York. He completed a residency in otolaryngology at Mount Sinai followed by a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Friedland joined the MCW faculty in 2002.
