Dr. Christopher Chitambar is Professor of Medicine and Biophysics in Hematology and Oncology in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. He obtained his MD degree from Christian Medical College in India and completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. He joined the faculty in the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin after completing a clinical and research Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver, Colorado, He is a member of the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center and the Free Radical Research Center, and is the Leader of the Clinical Breast Cancer Program at the Froedtert and Medical College Clinical Cancer Center.

Research Interests

His research focuses on understanding the role of iron proteins in tumor cell growth, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial function, with a particular emphasis on the development of novel gallium compounds as therapeutic agents for brain tumors and breast cancer. His clinical emphasis is on the treatment of patients with breast and the development of clinical trials for this disease.
