Dr. Daniel M. Lipinski Appointed Interim Research Director for the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences

Daniel Lipinski, MSc, DPhilThe Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Lipinski, MSc, DPhil, as Interim Research Director, effective December 1, 2022.

Dr. Lipinski joined MCW in 2016 and founded the Ocular Gene Therapy Lab (OGTL) which specializes in the development of gene therapy treatments for neurodegenerative and vascular diseases affecting the eye. He also leads the department’s Distinguished Lecture Series which hosts guest speakers from different institutions to present on their vision science research.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lipinski has been the recipient of several awards including MCW’s Outstanding Graduate School Educator Award (2020). He has been received research grant funding for multiple projects, including funding from the National Eye Institute, and has multiple publications, book chapters, national and international lectures on his work. He also serves as an active member on several MCW institutional committees.

Dr. Lipinski received his bachelor’s degree in biology and master’s degree in virology from Imperial College London and his Doctor of Philosophy in Ophthalmology at the University of Oxford. In addition to his new role, Dr. Lipinski will also continue his research efforts with the OGTL.

He has made invaluable contributions to our department, and we look forward to working with him in this new capacity. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Lipinski on his new role.
