Dr. Joel B. Miesfeld Joins Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Research Faculty
Joel B. Miesfeld, PhD has joined the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences as an Assistant Professor. He also serves a secondary appointment within the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy. Dr. Miesfeld’s research interests include elucidating the gene regulatory mechanisms of retinal development, as well as congenital and adult-onset retinal diseases, with a focus on retinal ganglion cells (RGCs).
A Wisconsin native from Sheboygan, Dr. Miesfeld received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Wisconsin. He attended MCW for his doctoral degree in Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy, during which Dr. Miesfeld won MCW’s Most Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California-Davis before returning to MCW to join our faculty.
Dr. Miesfeld is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the Society for Developmental Biology. He is excited to be back in Wisconsin and we look forward to all of Dr. Miesfeld’s contributions to our institution.
