Why I chose MCW: First and foremost, the group of people made MCW stand out to me when looking at residency programs. The culture and sense of community among residents, as well as attendings and administrators, was quite special. Moreover, being the only Level 1 Trauma Center and academic hospital in the area provides an incredibly large and diverse catch radius which provides excellent, high-volume training. Lastly, the level of responsibility and graduated autonomy afforded to residents was something I was seeking in a program.

What MCW has to offer a candidate: MCW offers the opportunity to both develop excellent surgical skills in addition to gaining an extremely well-rounded knowledge base for an orthopaedic surgeon. We offer a strong academic-based program, access to a high-volume VA, an excellent peds hospital on campus, and community elective rotations with local surgeons which provide invaluable learning opportunities.

What I like about living in Milwaukee: Milwaukee offers all the amenities of a larger city, yet it is still accessible to reach an almost unlimited number of outdoor activities nearby. Being able to continue my outdoor hobbies with friends and family such as hunting, fishing, and camping has been quite rewarding while navigating the busy time of residency.
