Biography
Dr. Van Arendonk is a pediatric surgeon who practices pediatric general and thoracic surgery at the Children’s Wisconsin. Dr. Van Arendonk completed medical school at the University of Iowa, general surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and pediatric surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University. During his surgical residency, he pursued formal clinical research training through the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Scholars (NIH KL2) program. He completed his PhD in the Graduate Training Program in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His past work focused primarily on issues in pediatric transplantation and trauma. He joined the Medical College of Wisconsin in September of 2018. His research interests include prediction models to aid in clinical decision-making, variability in care, quality improvement, and value in pediatric surgery. He is particularly interested in methods of enteral access for feeding in children and the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease in children.
