The American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA) was established in 1970 and serves to ensure the optimal pediatric surgical care of patients and their families, to promote excellence in the field, and to foster a vibrant and viable community of pediatric surgeons.
Members have created pediatric surgical training programs and standards, implemented tools and techniques specific to the needs of the pediatric surgical patient, researched how medical and surgical conditions uniquely affect the pediatric patient; and continue to direct and develop the field of pediatric surgery to ensure the best care for pediatric patients and families.
Dr. Calkins is a Professor in The Department of Surgery at The Medical College of Wisconsin and the program director of the MCW Pediatric Surgery Fellowship training program.
He was elected to the position of secretary by his APSA peers and will serve in that position from 2021-2024. His duties will involve leading the APSA council of committee chairs and a position on the board of directors.
