Teaching Philosophy
“Providing Anesthesiologist Assistant students with opportunities to explore their academic interests fosters greater understanding. In this way, both instructors and students shape the classroom and operating room learning experiences. Lectures should be grounded in the most current evidence while remaining fun, inspiring, and at times, humorous.”

Interests and Background
Michael Stout describes his interest in anesthesia as first occurring while serving in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Respiratory Specialist. In 2006, he completed his Anesthesiologist Assistant education at Emory University and returned to Florida to become the first CAA to be credentialed at three hospital systems. In 2008, Michael Stout was appointed as Assistant Professor at Nova Southeastern University where he taught ECG, anesthesia monitoring, and anesthesia simulation until becoming program director in 2011. While serving as director, Professor Stout completed his Doctor of Education at the University of Miami with a focus in higher education administration and health care diversity.

In 2015, Mr. Stout was appointed Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and program director of the Master of Science in Anesthesia program. As a member of the program’s founding faculty, he credits the program’s early success to a dedicated and talented faculty and highly accomplished administrative staff. Mr. Stout has served on several administrative committees for the American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants and the Association of Anesthesiologist Assistant Program Directors.
