Musings and an Ice Cream Sandwich
Matt Wheeler
It’s been a good weekend of studying. I’m currently watching the Packers vs. the 49ers, just got done taking a look at gluconeogenesis pathways. They’re equally riveting! (Ok, maybe I like football a tiny bit more than enzyme kinematics…)
My name is Matt Wheeler. I’m from, most recently, Superior, WI, but grew up in Cedar Rapids, IA. How did I end up in Green Bay? Well, maybe that’s another story for another blog post!
I really love my school, my classmates, my faculty and staff, and I especially love being a part of the inaugural class of the Green Bay campus. As you’d expect, we’re all still working out a few kinks, but that’s part of what attracted me to Green Bay in the first place – the chance to give feedback and be a part of that process.
We all really do care for each other here. We recently finished up our first block of tests, After the first one, there were snack bags waiting for us, made by a local doctor and his wife. One afternoon, there was a meal (honestly, I don’t remember what time of day it was… the week was a blur!) of delicious comfort food made by our staff. And then after our very last test of the week, we emerged to find ice cream sandwiches waiting for us!
So… if you’re thinking about applying to medical school, here’s my advice. You definitely shouldn’t choose a medical school based on which one feeds you more, but you do want to be a part of a school where you are supported in every aspect of your life, not just your academic pursuits.
Here’s a few of us enjoying our ice cream sandwiches. That’s our superb technology specialist, Dan, photobombing us! I know it’s hard to tell we just finished our tests…
