Rare Diseases and Rare Cancers in the Era of System Biology Symposium

This multi-day, hybrid event will showcase new and innovative research focused on the genetic understanding and treatment of rare diseases and rare cancers. The Mellowes Center is establishing this event to highlight the enormous ongoing collaborative efforts of Precision Medicine. Researchers and clinicians are coming together to meet unmet needs, and translate the resulting innovations and discoveries into the medical practice. The 2-day symposium will encompass: Key Note Speaker: Dr. Pablo Lapunzina, Director of CIBERER: highlighting the immense potential for new methods combined with datamining genomic knowledge to link biological alteration(s) to rare disease, leading to development of new treatments and new diagnostic procedures for these conditions. Five Key Areas of Focus: highlighting team science accomplishments at MCW and across the globe in precision medicine for rare disease and rare cancers, innovative technology, mitochondrial and immune system dysfunctions, and systems biology. Rare Storytellers Event: featuring Dr. Michael R. Lovell, President -Marquette University and his rare disease journey, with music by Trapper Shoepp and the inspiring science that continues to reveal genomic mechanisms that drive disease.
