The NLRP3 Inflammasome and Metabolism - Chasing The Connection

In this webinar, Dr. Olaf Groß will discuss a link between metabolism and NLRP3 which has long been postulated and is supported by in vivo evidence and inhibitor data. Yet, the precise mechanisms of how NLRP3 senses metabolic disturbances and its relationship (if any) to NLRP3's ability to sense membrane damage remains highly controversial. Using new and established activators in combination with extracellular metabolic flux analysis and metabolomics, this research aims to unravel these connections.

Tune in to learn more about how:

  • Potassium efflux-independent NLRP3 activation by small molecules including anti-cancer drugs is highly sensitive to scavenging of reactive oxygen species
  • Extracellular flux analysis reveals the ability of certain NLRP3 activators to inhibit the mitochondrial electron transport chain, leading to metabolic disturbance and growth arrest in cancer cells
  • Small molecule screening reveals novel, potassium efflux-independent NLRP3 activators that do not disturb the ETC
