Precision Health Equity for Gastric Cancer in Latinos
Luis G. Carvajal-Carmona, PhD
Dr. Luis Carvajal-Carmona recently joined the UC Davis CTSC as co-director of the Community and Collaboration Program/Core (C & C). Luis is Associate Professor at the Genome Center & Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Co-Leader, Population Sciences and Health Disparities Program and Director of the Latino Cancer Health Equity Initiative at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and Dean’s Fellow in Precision Health Equity UC Davis School of Medicine.
He is PI/MPI of four grants (RO1, R21, U54, and P30-supplement) funded by NCI focused on minority populations (gastric cancer in Latinos, cancer precision medicine in Latinos, Asians, and African Americans and multiple myeloma in African Americans). He is also a permanent member of the NIH Cancer, Health and Sleep Epidemiology (CHSA) Study Section, a member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Minorities in Cancer Research Council. He recently co-chaired one of sessions of the NCI-AACR Think Tank on Cancer Health Disparities and was awarded $3M by the Governor’s Office for the California Initiative to Advance Precision Medicine (he is Co-PI with 2 others from UCSF and City of Hope).
