Dr. Van Arendonk’s goal is to care for patients and families in the same way that he would want his own children and family members cared for – with compassion, respect, empathy, and clear communication. As a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Van Arendonk focuses on the comprehensive surgical management of neonatal and congenital anomalies, including diaphragmatic hernia, anorectal malformations, pulmonary malformations, biliary atresia, and intestinal conditions such as Hirschsprung’s Disease. He also provides surgical care for infants and children with childhood cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, traumatic injuries and burns, chest wall deformities such as pectus excavatum or carinatum, and gastroesophageal reflux. He favors minimally invasive surgical approaches whenever safe and feasible. His surgical training was completed at Johns Hopkins and Vanderbilt, and he obtained additional clinical research training at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His goal is to utilize clinical research to improve the surgical care of infants and children.
