Degree-Seeking Application Procedure
  1. Complete a Degree Seeking application online, submit with $50 payment.
  2. Make arrangements for official transcripts from all previous undergraduate, graduate and medical institutions to be sent directly to the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.  Transcripts in the hands of prospective students are not accepted as "official" unless remitted with signed seals intact.   A 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required in Math and Science for applicants to PhD programs.  International applicants may have additional requirements, see "International Students".
  3. Arrange for an "official" test score report for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) to be sent directly from ETS to the Graduate School of Biomedical Science.  Note our institution code is 1519, and department code is 0000 (or leave the department code blank).  Applicants who have previously earned a PhD, MD or JD are not required to submit GRE test scores.  MCAT or LSAT scores may be submitted in lieu of GRE scores.
  4. Arrange for three letters of recommendation, along with three "Admission Recommendation Forms" to be sent directly from the recommender to the graduate school office.   Any recommendation letters/forms received via the applicant are required to arrive with signature seals intact.
  5. Non-US citizens are required to take a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and make arrangement for an official score report to be sent directly from ETS to the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.  A minimum score of 100 is required on the Internet based version (including Speaking). Our Institution Code is 1519, Department code is 0000 (or leave the department code blank).
  6. Requesting a Waiver - Applicants with an earned PhD, MD or JD may seek a waiver from the Dean of the Graduate School for the GRE score requirement.  This request must be in writing.  Recommendation by the department/program regarding this request should be noted on the admission recommendation form which is forwarded to the Dean of the Graduate School of his approval.

Admissions

All required information should be submitted by the applicant directly to the Graduate School office.

Review of completed applications is conducted by a faculty committee within the academic department/program. The outcome of the committee review is forwarded to the Dean as a recommendation for admission or rejection.

Final action on each application is carried out by the Dean, who signs all letters of acceptance or rejection on behalf of the academic program and MCW.

Applicants requesting a waiver of the GRE, TOEFL, or other application requirements should include this request in writing with application materials.
