The newsletter story highlights the collaborative work associated with the recent NEI U24 grant awarded to Joe Carroll, PhD, and Jacque Duncan, MD, of UCSF. The research team will develop, characterize and disseminate two promising animal model systems that are closer to human visual anatomy and function than current mouse and rat models: the 13-lined ground squirrel and the tree shrew, both cone-dominant animals. The research team includes: Jenna Cava, MS, Ben Sajdak, PhD, Hannah Follett, and Alex Salmon. AOIP alum, Ben Sajdak, PhD, recently joined the McPherson Eye Research Institute as a Morgridge Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellow.
