Narayan Yoganandan, PhD, promoted to Director of the Biomechanics Program
Narayan Yoganandan, PhD, has been promoted to Director of the Biomechanics Program in the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Yoganandan is internationally renowned and has a strong and storied history with the Department. His work has led to major breakthroughs in the science of injury biomechanics. He has been the Principal Investigator on more than $30 million to the department. His publications have been cited more than 15,000 times, with more than 300 papers alone in PubMed, and over 100 as the first author. Together, Dr. Yoganandan and Frank Pintar, PhD, have fostered a broad program of clinical research collaboration in head and spine biomechanics, as well as other areas of applied biomechanics research.
According to Dr. Shekar Kurpad, Sanford J. Larson Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, “Dr. Yoganandan’s leadership of the Biomechanics Program in the Department will have a considerable affect and synergy on our planned growth in Neurotrauma Research. Dr. Yoganandan will lead and foster collaboration between other members of the biomechanics faculty, contribute as a key part of the Department’s leadership team, and mentor young researchers and clinical faculty in their own efforts to establish a national academic presence. Together, Drs. Yoganandan and Pintar will head a leadership team established to maintain the high quality of the laboratory facilities at the VA and the work performed there. We are confident that under their leadership, these laboratories will continue to thrive as they have over the past 30 years under their guidance, all to the mutual benefit of the Departments of Neurosurgery and Biomedical Engineering.”
