Two central Wisconsin physicians win Medical College of Wisconsin award for volunteer efforts in training medical students
The Wagner Award recognizes the important contributions and valuable service provided by volunteer instructors and clinical faculty members in helping to educate MCW students, residents and fellows. Recipients of this prestigious award demonstrate the same type of infectious enthusiasm, selfless dedication, effective teaching and outstanding contributions that Dr. Marvin Wagner exemplified in his 50+ years as a clinical faculty member at MCW.
“Drs. Bhushan and Hong represent the dedication and commitment that our community has shown to educate our students,” said MCW-Central Wisconsin Dean Lisa Grill Dodson, MD. “They are key in creating our next generation of physician leaders for this region.”
Dr. Bhushan is a hospitalist at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston, Wisconsin, where she sees patients for myriad acute medical and surgical reasons. She was on the first RAAC (Regional Application Advisory Council) as a community member physician. She has acted as the lead faculty preceptor at her location since MCW-Central Wisconsin’s inaugural class began their clerkships in 2017. Dr. Bhushan earned her medical degree from Sawai Man Sign Medical College in India. Subsequently, she earned her master’s in public health from State University of New York in Buffalo, where she also completed her internship and residency in internal medicine.
Dr. Hong is a general surgeon practicing with ThedaCare Medical Center - New London. He has acted as the sole surgical instructor at his site since MCW-Central Wisconsin put out a call for more general surgery preceptors in 2018. He is now a strong advocate for the school as it works toward developing a full clerkship program at ThedaCare in New London. Dr. Hong earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Illinois- Metropolitan Group Hospitals before returning to Wisconsin to practice.
