Dr. Raymond Earns Honorary Doctorate in Recognition of Leadership, Support and Counsel

Congratulations to John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, president and CEO of the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), for receiving an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Lawrence University earlier this month. He delivered the university’s 2021 Commencement address on June 13 and was awarded an honorary degree for serving as a guiding voice for many, including Lawrence University officials, during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“When the pandemic first began, there were few clear voices that provided direction,” Lawrence President Mark Burstein said in a statement. “John was there ready to offer insight and essential health context for the decisions that faced Lawrence. He not only stayed current with the constant updates in research and policy changes, but he also saw each decision through the lens of leading an academic community himself.”

The Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree is usually conferred to those who have distinguished themselves in areas related to the humanities.
