State Representative Dale Kooyenga receives Friend of MCW Award
Commitment to Improving the Health of Citizens Emphasized
Milwaukee, Sept. 21, 2018 – The Board of Trustees of the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) presented State Representative Dale Kooyenga with the Friend of MCW Award for his exceptional service to the state of Wisconsin, and for championing public policies that reflect the core values of MCW’s four missions: education, research, patient care and community engagement.
Rep. Kooyenga has represented the 14th District for the Wisconsin State Assembly since 2010. He has served as an invaluable partner to MCW on many efforts, including the establishment of MCW’s Green Bay and Central Wisconsin campuses, the creation of the Child Psychiatry Consultation Program in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and MCW, and the passage of mental health, addiction and opioid abuse initiatives. Additionally, Rep. Kooyenga authored Assembly Joint Resolution 111, recognizing Stop the Bleed, a lifesaving training campaign that MCW is advancing.
The Friend of MCW Award also recognizes Rep. Kooyenga for his commitment to work collaboratively, candidly and with an open-door policy, as well his character, putting interests of the state and residents at the forefront. Rep. Kooyenga continually keeps the health of citizens in mind throughout policy debates, provides critical perspectives on the changing political landscape and is highly responsive to issues brought forward by MCW.
The Friend of MCW Award recognizes a policy-maker who champions public policies that reflect the core values of MCW’s four missions. The Award also reflects less tangible, yet equally important characteristics, such as the commitment to work collaboratively, candidly, with an open-door policy, as well as an individual who exhibits character, putting the interests of the state and its residents at the forefront. The Friend of MCW Award was first awarded to State Representative John Nygren in 2014, for his role in advancing policy transformation in opioid, addiction, and prescription drug abuse, as well as his leadership as Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Finance in advancing public policy related to medical education and graduate medical education. Rep. Kooyenga is the second policy-maker to receive the Friend of MCW Award.
