Wisconsin State Senator Alberta Darling will receive the 2018 MCW Hands of Humanity award.
Allen W. Cowley, Jr., PhD, professor and chair of physiology at MCW, will deliver the keynote address.
WHY & VISUAL:The MCW Board of Trustees selected Senator Darling for the Hands of Humanity award for her longtime visionary leadership in improving human health and well-being, and her long-standing commitment to advancing public policy that is impactful, transformative and innovative for the citizens of Wisconsin.
To name just a few examples of Senator Darling’s commitment to education, health and biomedical research, she championed a $7.4 million grant to assist MCW in the establishment of its two regional campuses in Wausau and Green Bay, authored the Wisconsin Child Psychiatry Consultation Program and helped expand MCW’s family medicine residency programs across Wisconsin.
This award is named after the iconic sculpture at the entrance of the MCW Milwaukee campus, “Hands of Humanity” by James Myford, recognizing that in every patient encounter, there are three hands at work: the hand of the physician, the hand of the patient and the hand of God. Senator Darling’s work embodies the compassion, care and collaboration that is represented by the Hands of Humanity sculpture.
A video highlighting Senator Darling’s committed partnership with MCW will be shown.
