The Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Wisconsin Extend Affiliation for Additional 30 Years
Milwaukee, July 19, 2021 – Children’s Wisconsin and The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) have completed a new affiliation agreement that extends and enhances the organizations’ partnership to provide the best and safest pediatric patient care for another 30 years. MCW and Children’s have collaborated to provide a group practice of pediatric medical specialists, Children’s Specialty Group (CSG), for two decades. The more than 650 CSG pediatric physicians and pediatric advanced practice providers are MCW employees, offer clinical services at Children’s (hospitals, clinics and virtual appointments), conduct scientific research, and many are faculty members who teach at MCW. They make up the largest medical group in the state focused on pediatric health.
The new agreement will help ensure that Wisconsin families continue to have access to the best pediatric specialty care in the country, expands support of research and academic programs, and allows for strategic, financial, and operational integration.
CSG was created 20 years ago, and the shared practice has been a key component that has allowed MCW to grow into one of the largest private medical schools in the nation and Children’s to become one of the leading independent pediatric health systems in the country.
“Children’s Wisconsin is a truly special place, where our physicians and advanced practice providers care for kids who need the latest treatment options or cutting-edge clinical trials,” said Joseph Kerschner, MD, provost and executive vice president of MCW, and The Julia A. Uihlein, MA, Dean of the MCW School of Medicine. “MCW is one of the largest private medical schools in the country, and I can think of no better partner or place to train pediatric specialists than Children’s.”
“The Medical College of Wisconsin has grown to become the largest private research institution in Wisconsin, with an ability to attract students, residents, fellows and research faculty from across the country,” said Scott Turner, president and chief operating officer, Children’s Wisconsin Hospitals. “Children’s is proud to have CSG physicians and advanced practice providers delivering exceptional pediatric specialty care, and we look forward to seeing both organizations continue to flourish for the next 30 years.”
The new agreement will allow both organizations to continue excellence by supporting the recruitment and retention of the best and brightest pediatric specialists. Implementation of initial enhancements over the next 18 to 36 months will drive quality and outcomes, innovate research, elevate the academic mission, and achieve growth. Effective July 1, 2021, CSG will be consolidated with Children’s, and will be reflected in the Children’s financial reporting beginning in Q3 of 2021.
