Dr. Koenig joined the faculty of the Eye Institute in 1983 and was promoted to Full Professor in 1988.  His practice includes cataract, corneal and refractive surgery (LASIK) with a strong emphasis on laser vision correction, one-stitch corneal transplantation (DSAEK & DMEK) and no-stitch cataract surgery (learn more on his website).  He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, has received the Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and was elected to the Cornea Society, a distinguished professional society of corneal surgeons.  Dr. Koenig has served as a scientific referee for all the major ophthalmology journals and has served as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology.  He has been at the forefront of new corneal transplantation techniques such as DSAEK and has published extensively in this area, having nearly 100 articles published in the scientific literature.

Dr. Koenig has participated in the training of a number of ophthalmologists and corneal surgeons and has been repeatedly selected by his peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America.”  Dr. Koenig recently stated, “As an ophthalmologist, I am frequently consulted by other doctors about the need for surgical correction of various eye diseases.  In advising patients, I draw upon my 30 years of clinical experience, fellowship training in corneal surgery, and a conservative medical philosophy.  After listening to patients complaints and performing a thorough examination, I will typically offer patients a step-ladder approach, outline therapeutic options, and allow them to participate in their own care.”
