2015 VisionWalk participants at Milwaukee's lakefront

Members of the 2015 "Star Pupils" team walked in a foggy morning on Milwaukee's lakefront for the annual Foundation Fighting Blindness VisionWalk.

foundation fighting blindnessOn Sunday, May 22, 2016, the Eye Institute "Optic Nerds" will participate in the 8th annual Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) Wisconsin VisionWalk on Milwaukee's Lakefront. Proceeds from the VisionWalk support research into preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP), macular degeneration, Stargardt disease and other retinal degenerative diseases. Kimberly E. Stepien, MD, associate professor of ophthalmology & visual sciences, will represent the Eye Institute by serving as the walk’s medical chair.

Reflecting on the FFB VisionWalk experience, Vesper Williams, CCRC, Manager, Clinical & Translational Research, says "The FFB VisionWalk brings such an inspiring group of people together it reminds you that we’re all part of a much larger vision-focused community.  Not to mention, it offers a great opportunity to connect with many of our past and perhaps future research volunteers outside the walls of the Eye Institute.”
