Community Connections

Tomorrow’s Healthcare Starts Here

MCW-Central Wisconsin is a community-based partnership among academic, healthcare, civic and philanthropic leaders with a shared passion to preserve and secure the health and well-being of families throughout the region. This campus, a result of their dedication and visionary leadership, prepares primary care physicians, surgeons, psychiatrists and other specialists. Through these partners’ generosity, we are impacting the future healthcare in this region for generations to come.

  • Standardized Patient
    • Standardized patients role play during student clinical learning and exams so that students can learn excellent patient interaction skills. This is an hourly paid position that requires attendance at training sessions. Work is very sporadic and mostly during daytime hours. We recruit and train new standardized patients once/year. We are especially seeking individuals of ethnic diversity and of various ages.

  • Community Advisory Subcommittees
    • We have many community opportunities for involvement in the following committees:
      • Faculty Committee: This committee of local MCW-Central Wisconsin faculty (those hired by MCW-Central Wisconsin as well as our community faculty members) are involved in networking and supporting each other and advising our MCW team on faculty needs and how we can facilitate this support via other faculty and systems at MCW-Milwaukee and MCW-Green Bay. This group could also be influential in advising and assisting in the faculty recruitment process. This group meets quarterly or more often as necessary.
      • Pipeline Committee: This committee assists and advises regarding efforts on recruiting students for the MCW-Central Wisconsin campus. The committee helps to identify ways to do this, especially targeting current post-secondary students and/or those currently with healthcare degrees who might be interested in pursuing medical education. The group meets every other month from September through May.
      • Student Support Committee: This committee helps to identify ways to support students when they arrive in Wausau and during their clinical rotation in the region. This group advises MCW-Central Wisconsin regarding events to sponsor, events to help coordinate with other partners, services and other supports needed by students to help ensure their success. This group also helps to coordinate each incoming class welcome efforts.
