Online Navigation for All eBridge Modules

Navigation for All eBridge Modules (Online)

This training is helpful for those who are beginning to learn any of the eBridge applications. Please note: this online course is a prerequisite to all eBridge classroom training.

This presentation will be updated at the end of 2017 when the eBridge team installs a major system upgrade. Until then, some screenshots may be outdated. Generally, this training provides useful navigation tips that are current.

Your evaluation comments are very helpful during this time when I'm planning for the new online training. I appreciate your input.

Display problems? How to 'clear the cache' on your computer.

Clearing the Cache - Why should I do this?

Sometimes when a webpage or Internet based software is opened, such as eBridge or D2L, the computer screen doesn't display the content as expected or as stated in the instructions. It may not be the fault of the web page or software, it may be the Internet browser causing the issue - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome. Try this before calling for help.

If you use a PC:

  1. Easy short cut is to hold down the keyboard keys: Control>shift>delete
  2. This brings up a pop-up box with check boxes.
  3. Accept the default options that are already checked and click on the Delete button at the bottom of the pop-up.
  4. The pop-up disappears and you have completed the 'clearing of the cache'.
  5. Completely close the browser, re-open it and try to access the content again.

If you use a MAC:

  1. Easy short cut is to hold down the keyboard keys: Command>shift>delete

Explanation of the activity.

Whether you use Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or any other Internet browser, it is important to clean up its page viewing 'temporary Internet files' on a regular basis. Your Internet browser saves and stores information each time you visit a web page. Usually you want this information stored because it speeds up your browsing when you return to a site.

But if information on a web page has been updated since the last time you visited it, you will want the new information to display, not the older, stored information that was 'cached' from your earlier visit. That is why it is a good idea to clear out the older, stored information so the new information can display.

The technical term for this clean-up job is 'clearing the cache'. It is advised you do this at least weekly. There isn't a hard, fast rule for this - it is a recommendation.

Most of the web based software we use at MCW is affected by this caching of information, including eBridge and D2L.
