As announced previously, the NIH recently released a revised Public Access Policy, NOT-OD-08-033 regarding plans for enhancing public access to archived publications resulting from NIH-funded research. The policy will affect all current and future NIH grants and contracts. NIH-funded investigators should be aware of two important dates related to this policy, April 7, 2008, and May 25, 2008. The revised policy requires that all NIH investigators submit or have submitted for them to the National Library of Medicine's PubMed Central (PMC), an electronic version of their peer reviewed manuscripts upon acceptance for publication, to be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the official date of publication in a manner consistent with copyright law.
