In addition to the three-year residency available at the Eye Institute, fellowship training is available to ophthalmology residents planning careers in academic ophthalmology or those interested in additional subspecialty training. Two-year fellowship programs are available in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery and in Orbital and Oculoplastic Surgery. The vitreoretinal fellowship positions are filled through the San Francisco Match, while the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery-approved oculoplastics fellowship positions are matched through the National Resident Matching Program.
