Thank you for considering MCW for your medical education. We are here to support you every step of the way on your journey to become a physician or anesthesiologist assistant.


MCW offers many program options to help you reach your career aspirations, whether you are determined to become a pediatrician, a surgeon or medical researcher, or if you want to explore several options before committing to your ultimate career path. You can choose a focused program that will enable you to graduate in three years, or a four-year program that allows you to gain experience in more areas of medicine before graduation. You can also choose between a large or small class size, and between an urban campus or a smaller community campus. The choice is yours, but we certainly hope you choose MCW.

  • Fourth-year electives are available to visiting students only on the Milwaukee Campus.

  • Observerships are coordinated directly through the departments that offer them.  The medical school does not offer observerships.

  • It is not possible to audit courses.

  • ALL fourth-year scheduling is done centrally through the Office of the Registrar. Please do not contact the departments directly for elective information.


2017-2018 Visiting Student Course Catalog

The Medical College of Wisconsin uses the VSAS (Visiting Student Application Service) system for processing visiting student applications. For more information on VSAS, please visit their website or contact VSAS at vsas@aamc.org or (202) 478-9878

We will start accepting applications April 3, 2017
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR FOURTH-YEAR STUDENTS
  • Visiting students must be in good academic standing at their home institutions.
  • Visiting students must have completed their institution’s core clinical rotations prior to taking fourth-year electives at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
  • Applications will be considered from students if they are from an LCME-accredited medical school or COCA-accredited osteopathic medical school.
  • International students are not eligible to apply for fourth-year electives.
  • All students must have taken and passed the USMLE, Step 1 or COMLEX, Step 1 Examination.
  • Visiting students may enroll for 4, 8, 12, or 16 weeks of electives at MCW or its affiliated institutions.
  • MCW reserves the right to immediately terminate the enrollment of any visiting student who: posts any grade of less than “Pass” in the MCW grading system or violates any MCW policy or procedure regarding misconduct or professional behavior.
  • Any student who has transferred to an LCME or COCA-accredited medical school after being dismissed from the Medical College of Wisconsin or any student who withdrew from the College in poor academic standing, is not eligible to enroll in fourth-year electives as a visiting student.

All Medical College of Wisconsin electives are four-weeks in length. Courses begin on a Monday and end on a Sunday and are only offered for the dates listed below.

Annual Campus Safety Report

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) prepares and publishes its Annual Campus Safety Report in compliance with the Higher Education Act of 1965, otherwise known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). This report outlines MCW’s security policies and discloses campus crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years.

This report is available to all current and prospective faculty, staff and students. An electronic version of the report can be accessed at this location.
