Dr. Jamila Kwarteng is an instructor in the Division of Epidemiology in the Institute for Health & Equity and a fellow in the Primary Care Research Fellowship. She received her PhD in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan, School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the influence of neighborhood poverty and psychosocial stress on obesity and breast cancer survival.

Dr. Kwarteng is committed to developing interventions that work towards addressing social factors that contribute to racial health disparities. As a member of the MCW Cancer Center Community Advisory Board’s Prevention and Healthy Communities (PHC) workgroup, she plans to identify potential community partners to develop community-engaged interventions that address risk factors relating to disparities in cancer survival.

She has published several articles on neighborhood characteristics and health outcomes in journals such as the Journal of Public Health and the American Journal of Health Promotion.
