Research Interests

My research focuses on personalizing breast cancer radiation treatment. There are currently no biomarkers to predict radiation sensitivity in both breast tumors and in normal tissues that also receive irradiation as part of treatment, such as the heart. By using consomic and congenic rat models, I aim to identify gene(s) responsible for alterations in radiation sensitivity. The knowledge obtained from these studies can potentially identify pathways to pharmacologically target to improve the therapeutic ratio of radiation therapy.
