Biography

Dr. Gouthro is an Assistant Professor of the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Training Director of the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Central Wisconsin Psychiatry Residency Program, and Chief Medical Officer of North Central Health Care in Wausau, Wi. Prior to his current roles, Dr. Gouthro was Regional Clerkship Director of Psychiatry for the MCW Green Bay medical school campus, and Training Director of the MCW Northeastern Wisconsin Psychiatry Program located in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

His medical school and specialty training in psychiatry were both completed at the Medical College of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee. Since completing residency in 2011, he has placed a focus on medical education in rural areas, and he continues to work with medical learners from multiple disciplines to further mental health training.

He has joined with community-based organizations such as the Jackie Nitschke Center, Family Services, St. Norbert College, and the Green Bay police department, to address addiction consultation, patient care, and educational activities aimed at improving the psychiatric health of Wisconsin.

Further following his focus on community, he assisted with community and school based mental health initiatives as a Connections for Mental Wellness Steering Committee member; helped design the Northeastern Wisconsin Mental Health Symposium, which offers affordable CME credits to community providers, and with a goal of providing mental health care to the underserved of Brown County, worked with a team of community minded individuals to establish a nonprofit, free mental health clinic, the Central Wisconsin Psychiatry Care Clinic.

Because of his conviction physicians should place a strong focus on self and community wellness, he has established the Promotion of Mental Wellness Award which is provided to graduating MCW-GB students which exemplify this belief.

Dr. Gouthro has been awarded the Health Outreach Partnering and Education Initiative award of the Department of Psychiatry in 2007, The Charles E. Kubly Community Engagement award in 2017, and most recently a 2018 Health Care Heroes Award in the Behavioral Health category by the BizTimes media.
