Dr. Aasim Padela Comments on Former Corewell Health Physician's Religious Discrimination Lawsuit
A former Corewell Health physician has filed a lawsuit against that healthcare group claiming they violated civil rights, the Whistleblower Protection Act, and wrongful discharge. Dr. Samer Ilayan asked for daily prayer breaks and time to attend weekly Friday prayers but was met with a denial.
Dr. Aasim Padela, professor of emergency medicine, bioethics and medical humanities, at the Medical College of Wisconsin recently conducted a study that shows between 2013 and 2021 discrimination against Muslim clinicians has doubled. He states this leads to a high level of stress, depression, and burnout.
