Biography

Edward “Eddie” Harwick is a medical student at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW), where he conducted research under the supervision of Dr. Michael Pulia MD, MS, at the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine (ED). During that time, Eddie studied ED providers’ perceptions of skin surface warmth and developed a clinical algorithm utilizing surface thermal imaging to help distinguish cellulitis from non-cellulitis mimics.

Eddie’s time in the ED also exposed him to medical imaging techniques for assessing brain and spinal cord injuries, which prompted him to enroll in a medical physics course at UW, in which he used voxel-based approaches to characterize the brain morphology of individuals with Internet Addiction Disorder. Now in medical school, Eddie eagerly looks to advance his understanding of the anatomy and electrophysiology of the brain with the hope of one day leveraging neuromodulation to reduce pain and improve functional outcomes in patients.
