Emergency Rooms Overloaded in SE Wisconsin

COVID-19 cases continue to soar, leaving emergency rooms overwhelmed. Dr. Jason Liu, physician and professor of emergency medicine at Froedtert & MCW, comments that he has never seen anything like this in his almost 20 years of service. He states that ER rooms are being used kind of like inpatient beds and there is little to no room left for patients coming through the front door into the ER.

As emergency rooms continue to be overwhelmed, physicians are urging patients to call a primary care doctor if it is a non-life-threatening issue. Additionally, patients should not go to the ER for a COVID-19 test. Dr. Liu asks people to be understanding and realize that things are taking longer than usual. It is recommended patients check the average wait times online if possible.
