Applied Genetics Case Study

PARTICIPATE in a guided genetics case study that introduces students to real-world applications of genetic information. Working in small groups, students examine how data is gathered, interpreted, and communicated in a clinical context. The experience emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and ethical considerations in applied genetics. Students leave with a clearer understanding of how genetics supports informed health based decision-making beyond the laboratory.

Students performing hands-on lab activities

Hands-On DNA Laboratory Experience

STEP INTO a fully functioning lab by putting on a lab coat and grabbing a pipette to experience what it’s like to work at the bench with real samples. Students perform a DNA isolation, evaluate sample quality, and learn how laboratory techniques contribute to research and diagnostics. Guided by experts in laboratory and genomic sciences, participants gain firsthand exposure to how biological data is generated and analyzed. This experience builds scientific confidence and brings classroom concepts to life through authentic practice.

Genomic Data to Patient Care

EXPLORE the technologies that power modern genomic science through a guided tour of the precision instruments used to decode the base pairs of the genome. Observe how biological samples move from the wet lab through sequencing platforms to the generation of analytical outputs, gaining insight into the full technical workflow. Participants see how data are produced, what forms they take, and how quality and precision are maintained at each step. This experience reveals the coordinated systems, instrumentation, and processes that go beyond the base pairs making genomic discovery and precision medicine possible.
