Biography
Hi! My name is Jamie Baumann, and I am from St. Peters, Missouri! I graduated from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and minors in Psychology and Public Health.
During my time at Mizzou, I explored my passion for genetics by working as an undergraduate research assistant in a complex evolutionary genetics lab. In this role, I gained hands-on research experience studying heritable traits and diseases. I was involved in multiple projects, including research on a mutation associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other projects focused on genetic diversity.
After graduation, I began working remotely as a genetic counseling assistant for Genexsure LLC, where I gained valuable insight into the genetic counseling profession. I also began volunteering at a local cancer care clinic and as a proactive caller volunteer for VITAS Hospice Care. These experiences helped me develop strong communication skills and learn how to connect with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. Additionally, I served as a board member of the Genetic Counseling Prospective Student Network, where I worked alongside other prospective genetic counseling students to organize events that increased awareness of the genetic counseling field and supported applicants throughout the application process.
These experiences have shaped my journey toward genetic counseling, and I am so excited to be a part of MCW’s 6th cohort! Outside of school, I enjoy trying new coffee shops, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
