Biography

Hello! My name is Madilynn Peterson. I'm from Racine, Wisconsin, and I graduated from UW–Madison in May 2025. My degree is in Genetics & Genomics and Health Promotion & Health Equity, and I also earned a certificate in Disability Rights and Services. During undergrad, I investigated hematological malignancies and Telomere Biology Disorders through gene discovery and variant analysis research. This experience emphasized my passion for genetic variant science and its profound impact on human health!

Throughout my time in college, I worked as a student orientation intern for the Office of Student Transition and Family Engagement at UW-Madison, and as a project assistant with the Wisconsin Center for Education Research. In my project assistant role, we conducted a pilot study to aid educators in identifying elementary aged English Language Learners with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities for proper language screening assessments. Since graduating from UW-Madison, I’ve worked as a genetic counseling assistant here at Froedtert & MCW with the adult specialty genetics team. I’ve loved the unique exposure to “niche” clinical areas of genetics such as cardiology, neurology, and ophthalmology.

I also work as a barista at The Inclusive Bean, a coffee shop that creates employment opportunities for individuals of all abilities. I peer mentor and assist our staff with skill building competencies such as cash transaction handling, food preparation, and friendly customer interactions. Outside of academics, I love a walk along lake Michigan with a local coffee and meticulous crafts such as cross-stitching and dot-by-letter. I am thrilled to be a part of the 6th cohort of MSGC students here at MCW to continue my professional and academic journey!
