Biography

Hi, my name is Tessa, and I am from Oak Forest, Illinois. I graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 2025 with a BS in Biology. During my time at Olivet, I played soccer and developed a strong interest in genetics and healthcare that ultimately led me to pursue genetic counseling. Some of my most meaningful experiences have involved working with individuals with disabilities. For several summers, I worked as an inclusion counselor at Brookfield Zoo, where I helped make camp activities accessible to children with a wide range of needs. I have also spent several years volunteering and working with the Association of Horizon, an organization that provides recreational opportunities and a summer camp for adults with physical disabilities. Through Horizon, I have had the opportunity to provide one-on-one caregiving support while helping campers participate in activities throughout the week. My experiences at Horizon and Brookfield Zoo have also shaped a lot of what I value going into genetic counseling. They have given me a greater appreciation for accessibility and advocacy. Genetic counseling felt like a natural fit because it gives me the chance to combine those interests with my love of genetics. I’m excited to keep learning and figuring out where my interests take me throughout my time at MCW! Outside of school, I love soccer, animals, and anything that gives me an excuse to be creative. I enjoy knitting and crocheting. I am excited to explore Milwaukee, meet new people, and begin this next chapter at MCW!
