Biography

Karen-Sue Barker Carlson, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Division of Hematology and Oncology, specializing in acute and chronic myeloid leukemia, adolescent and young adult leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative disorders. She received her MD and PhD in 2004 from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. In 2006, she completed her postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University in New York. She was awarded the F.M. Kirby Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sensory Neuroscience during her fellowship. Dr. Carlson completed her residency in internal medicine and subsequent Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital, New York. In her final year, Dr. Carlson served as Chief Hematology and Oncology Fellow. Dr. Carlson held the position of Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical Center prior to joining MCW.

Research Interests

Dr. Carlson's basic and clinical research focus on the bone marrow microenvironment and its impact on normal and leukemic blood cell production. Dr. Carlson is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology.
