Biography

Hi! My name is Abby Meidl, and I am from West Bend, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in 2023 with a BS in Biology with a concentration in Cellular and Molecular Genetics and minors in Chemistry and Psychology. During my time at UWL, I was also a part of the Women’s Track and Field team for all four years. I always knew I wanted to go into healthcare, but it wasn’t until my time in undergrad where I found my love for genetics and the genetic counseling profession.

Beyond academics and athletics, I worked for a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, where I helped foster independence and daily living skills. I also volunteered with another nonprofit that provided services in domestic abuse prevention, family support, and mental health. These experiences not only deepened my passion for serving others but also strengthened my ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and advocate for those in need.

After graduation, I worked as an oncology genetic counseling assistant and gained valuable insight into the genetic counseling profession. At the same time, I realized how much I missed being part of the athletic world and began coaching high school pole vault. Coaching has allowed me to serve as a role model and mentor for young athletes, just as my coaches once did for me, and has filled my cup up in more ways than I can count.

In my free time, I love staying active - whether it’s training and competing in triathlons, doing CrossFit, yoga, or cycle classes at the Y, or exploring new running routes. When I’m not moving, you can usually find me watching reality TV, discovering new coffee shops to study in, or hunting down the best ice cream to satisfy my sweet tooth. I am so grateful to be a part of the MSGC 5th cohort and am excited for what the future holds!
