Biography

Crystal Landeros is a biliterate public health practitioner with almost 15 years of experience. With an emphasis on working with underserved communities to address their health needs, she has served as a community advocate for health equity. Having earned her associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees from New Mexico State University in public health, she is a Medical College of Wisconsin Doctor of Public Health student.

As a student at MCW, she is currently part of a research team under Dr. Lisa Sanchez-Johnsen, practicing public health research focused on chronic disease prevention among Hispanic/Latino communities across the nation, and is a member of a Community Advisory Board (CAB) member enabling her to advocate for Hispanic/Latino communities. She holds a Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification, with the intention of working toward her Master Health Education Specialist designation, earned via the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC). In addition, she is a Diabetes Prevention Lifestyle Coach, earned via the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES), and facilitates diabetes prevention and other prevention programming in the community as part of her role as the Community Health Coordinator serving the Metro Milwaukee Area with Aurora Health Care.

In this role, she supports work in the areas of community health assessments, community implementation strategies, and community benefit reporting. In addition, she supports community health workers (CHWs) as an occasional instructor with the Milwaukee Area Health Education Center, leading courses in Spanish with the state’s Spanish CHW training program, and serves as a mentor/preceptor to public health students attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Crystal has served on continuing education webinars hosted by NCHEC and regional public health training centers. Crystal has also served as a co-chair in the Education & Activities Committee for the WI Chapter of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives (NALHE), and as a steering committee member with the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative.
